Good Old Apple Pie

Apple pie, a childhood treat for many of us, can bring smiles and comfort on sunny afternoons, at any age. It’s one of the easiest and tastiest cakes that you can do at home without spending too much time in the kitchen or emptying your wallet.

How much time will you need?

Mixing ingredients: 20 min

Cooking time: 35 min

Ready in: 55 min

Ingredients:

1. For the dough:

500g flour

200g soft butter

100g sour cream

1 egg

150g sugar

10g baking powder

1 pinch of salt

2. For the filling:

1 ½  kg apples

3 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon powder

How to make the apple pie

Start with the filling so that it has time to cool down while you prepare the dough.

Wash the apples and grate them (after peeling off the skin). Put them in a non-stick pot with 3-5 tablespoons of sugar. After 5 minutes, add the cinnamon. Mix occasionally and let them simmer on low heat until the juice evaporates. Put them aside to cool.

Moving on to the dough

In a large bowl, mix the butter and sugar. Add the egg and beat lightly until you get a creamy texture. Add the sour cream, stir for another minute.

In a separate bols, mix the flour with salt and baking powder, then add over the creamy mixture above, stirring with a wooden spoon. Wait until the dough hardens and is no longer sticky. Divide it into 2 equal balls.

Flour the baking tray and spread out one of the two balls (make it large enough to cover the base). Place the filling on top. Spread the second ball of dough like you did with the first and cover the filling with it.

Put the tray in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes (350°F) or until you notice that the dough is baked.

Remove the tray from the oven and let it cool. Sprinkle vanilla sugar on top and enjoy!
