Can You Believe?

Dawn of a Change

The memories you hold,
the dreams you shared
come back, but gone
are days when they were magic,
spreading a veil of chance
over each precipice.
Now you see plainly
the abyss waiting in the dark
if you should go the wrong way,
tread path of forlorn wishes,
dusting of sunsets
patiently waiting to engulf
all that you could become.

If you can’t glimpse the sunlight
for fierce storms
and clouds
stop you from reaching
out to sky and sun,
sit on the grass,
find flowers to protect,
the will you give them will come back
it strengthens resolve,
abides in smiles
and won’t leave you forgotten
in lands of twilight where no stars
can guide you home.

Now is the time to cherish dreams,
from yesterday
or just a second
ago.
If you were too young to believe before,
now you can tell
deception doesn’t last for long
hope and devotion
unite in paths of light
they take your hand to bring you safely
out of the desert
where only disappointment, annoyance,
hurt
can wait
with no reward for happy thoughts.

Your memories can rescue
the love you hold
in heart, spirit
while the mind wanders
on chances, possibilities,
that can only take root
once you believe
you can.
